The stages that contribute most to our carbon footprint are the supply of green coffee and home use rather than capsule production or its lifespan.
The Nespresso System optimises both phases by using the precise amount of coffee, water, and energy, thereby reducing its impact compared to other systems.
Our carbon footprint
The stages that contribute the most to the carbon footprint, up to 68%, are the supply of green coffee and home use.

What Do We Mean by “Precision Consumption”?
Precision consumption takes the guesswork out of coffee brewing. We can’t make your coffee for you, but we can help you to reduce the carbon footprint of your cup of coffee.
Every aspect of the process – from the amount of roast and ground coffee to the water and energy used for brewing – is precisely controlled to minimize wasted resources: with Nespresso, there’s no chance of boiling too much water, using excess energy to heat, or making too much coffee and throwing the waste down the sink.
Of course, it all starts on the farm. That’s why we work closely with farmers to make sure their beans are cultivated in harmony with nature. This is part of our regenerative farming promise.

Recycle. Recycle. Recycle.
Our capsules are essential for our precision consumption. They not only allow for the exact amount of resources to be used, but our recycling programme also ensures these resources are recovered after use.
Too good to waste
Another sustainable option: you will soon be able to compost our paper capsules.
