How is our Colombian coffee grown and harvested?
High altitude locations
Unique harvesting processes - selecting only ripe, red coffee cherries
Longer dry fermenting process
We source our Master Origin Colombian Arabica from the high altitude, cold climate Andean slopes of Aguadas. Farmers in this region use a special late harvest technique. The late harvest method involves leaving the cherries to mature on the coffee plants for a longer time and individually hand picking them once they are perfectly ripe. The cherries are then de-pulped, the skins are removed and they are fermented.
The unique, high altitude growing environment in Aguadas and a longer fermentation process results in a rich, fruity taste profile. Our skilled partner farmers use their expert touch, and years of experience to pinpoint the optimum resting time for the beans.
It’s these growing and harvesting techniques that give our Master Origin Colombian coffee and Colombian coffee blends their deliciously distinctive flavour.
What does Colombian coffee taste like?
Colombia’s fine washed Arabica coffee has a fine acidity and lots of fruit notes, which is why we use Colombian Arabicas in so many of our coffees.

Linizio Lungo
Arabicas from Colombia and Brazil that go into making Linizio Lungo are handpicked. Treated differently, our Colombian Arabica beans are fermented with their mucilage and are washed afterwards while the Brazil Bourbon beans are washed, then depulped, and dried in the sun with their mucilage.
Ispirazione Ristretto Italiano
This blend combines the best East African and South American Arabicas. It contains the great, lightly acidic Kenyan Arabicas and a touch of Robusta for added zing. The slow split roasting of the beans creates a contrasting bouquet, bringing together subtle fruity and acid notes, with intensely roasted and chocolate ones.
Ispirazione Ristretto Italiano Decaffeinato
This coffee is powerful and contrasting with a hint of fruit. A selection of the best Kenyan and South American Arabicas are sophisticatedly blended with a touch of Robusta. Its finely ground texture creates an Italian style coffee: intense with a rich flavour and body.

Colombian coffee: a sustainable process
In a country that has experienced years of uncertainty due to internal conflict, it is coffee that unites a network of farmers that are building a future for the next generation. Many of the coffee farmers who previously abandoned their livelihoods are coming back to the land to, once again, make great coffee.
Our Reviving Origins Program supports farming cooperatives, improves infrastructure and agricultural processes and has become a crucial platform for rebuilding and empowering many of the region’s farmers.
The program provides technical assistance, broadens farmers’ access to the global marketplace, and helps consolidate farmers’ work to ensure they can focus on what they love: coffee.
We have also expanded our AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program and invested $5.4 million into our pension scheme called the AAA Farmer Future Program. This program partners alongside Fairtrade International, the Colombian government and Blue Marble Crop Insurance and is an initiative that focuses on farmers’ welfare and future retirement.
