Australian workers still have a strong love of quality coffee
Coffee has been fundamental to human culture, uniting and inspiring people for almost a thousand years. It is this inherent role coffee plays in our society that Nespresso plays into, enhancing the relationships Australians have with their favourite brew.
As employers, understanding the coffee consumption habits of your workforce can provide valuable insights into employee preferences, well-being, and even productivity. Recent research highlights significant trends in workplace coffee consumption, offering a detailed look at the types of coffee employees prefer, the times they consume coffee, and how these habits are evolving.
Coffee beyond the home
While Australians have confirmed that their enjoyment of coffee transcends time and place, it’s no surprise that coffee culture at work has garnered greater emphasis, particularly regarding the importance coffee plays in productivity and workplace relations. In fact, 15% of all coffee occasions are consumed in the actual workplace.
The majority of coffee consumption occurs before lunchtime, with 64% of past week coffee occasions happening in the morning. There has been a notable shift towards mid-morning coffee consumption, away from the traditional early morning or breakfast times. This trend indicates that employees are increasingly turning to coffee as a mid-morning boost, rather than as an immediate wake-up drink, and thus often consumed in the workplace.

For employees, having access to a good cup of coffee could be the difference between coming to the office or not. Instant coffee remains the most commonly consumed coffee format in workplaces, with 52% of respondents indicating they drink it at work. However, with more than half of Australian workers placing priority on high-quality coffee in their workplace, it is important for organisations to consider the ways Nespresso can help meet the coffee needs of their valued employees. We believe the flexible solutions we offer by providing workers with the highest-quality coffee, conveniently located in their office, can help transform offices into a place of connection.
Just as our coffee is becoming imperative to the workplace, so too is the role coffee plays in fostering relationships between co-workers. As a general consensus, 81 per cent of Australian workers believe coffee facilitates better communication between colleagues, it’s the new water-cooler. As Nespresso continues to provide premium coffee to workplaces across the country, we are pleased to see the positive impact this inherently brings to overall workplace wellness.

Providing a premium coffee experience is at the heart of what we do and it's what continues to drive us. As we see the way coffee is woven into the homes, offices and lives of our Australian customers, we place great importance on ensuring Nespresso continues to offer high-quality coffee experiences wherever you are.
