We want our coffee to reach you in the perfect condition
At Nespresso, we want our coffee to reach you in the perfect condition – which is why we selected aluminium as the best material to protect and preserve the aromas and flavours of our quality coffee. It provides perfect protection from oxygen, light and moisture.
Aluminium is also a valuable material and environmentally friendly because it is lightweight and infinitely recyclable.
Since 2012, Nespresso has been working with IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) and aluminium leaders to create the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) with the mission of fostering greater sustainability and transparency throughout the aluminium industry. ASI aims to create and establish new standards for sustainable aluminium sourcing.
Even though Nespresso is a relatively small aluminium user, our capsules are high profile. Our partnership with IUCN has attracted several companies from different industry sectors and we are working together to improve aluminium’s positive impact.
This collaboration has resulted in establishing the ASI Performance Standard, enabling the aluminium industry to accredit sustainable supply of the material and demonstrate responsibility and credibility of their environmental, social and governance performance. Three years after creating the standard, ASI already has attracted 14 corporate members.

In 2013 in Australia, we announced a partnership with highly awarded international recycling company TerraCycle. In addition to recycling points at all Nespresso Boutiques nationally, this partnership provides another way for Club Members to recycle their used capsules.
