85% of the aluminium in our capsules is recycled aluminium

Aluminium is the perfect barrier to oxygen, light and humidity and to protect the freshness and the aromas of high-quality coffee, over time. Besides that is infinitely recyclable and is one of the most widely recycled materials in the world.

The only way to become more circular is to ensure what comes to an end always becomes a new beginning.

Reviving Origins

Nespresso is partnering with impact venture, OpenSC, to bring new levels of transparency to Kahawa Ya Congo - harnessing technology. Every bag of organic coffee is digitally and securely traced from more than 1,400 smallholder farmers of the AMKA Cooperative in South Kivu.

For the high quality coffee produced, every AAA farmer receives the right premium payment, directly verified by OpenSC’s technology. This means they receive a fair reward for their work to produce exceptional organic coffee. This is an important step in Nespresso’s transparency journey while bringing the best coffee to you.

Origin

The rain-rich volcanic soils along the Kivu lakeshores of Eastern Congo are ideal Arabica terroir. Years of continued conflict and political instability leave many plantations abandonded and smallholder farmers tapping only a small fraction of Congos potential for specialty coffee.

Roasting

Congo is split roast. A small portion of these Arabica beans gets a darker roast to bring out the intensity and body of this coffee.
