All About Affogato

Known for its charming combination of ice cream and espresso,
Affogato has always been a favorite of many.
Let us tell you about the meaning of Affogato, its origins,
and the perfectly matching ice cream options.
Meaning of Affogato

Affogato is an Italian dessert that uses coffee.
The word 'affogato' comes from the Italian verb 'affogare'
(to drown) and means 'drowned'.
It is a dessert coffee enjoyed after a meal,
where hot espresso is poured over cold vanilla ice cream.
The Origins of Affogato

The exact origin of the affogato is unclear,
but there is a popular story many people believe.
In the past, Italians sought ways to beat the summer heat.
They started pouring their favorite espresso shot
over gelato, which provided a sugar boost and energy.
The combination of cold, sweet gelato and hot,
bitter espresso became a beloved treat.
Affogato Ice cream and Varieties

What kind of ice cream should you use to
make the most delicious affogato?
Typically, vanilla ice cream pairs best with espresso.
The higher the milk cream content, the better it tastes.
Affogato can be enjoyed in various ways
according to personal preference.
Here are four popular types of affogato.
1. Classic Affogato
The classic affogato is the most basic style.
Pour rich espresso over vanilla ice cream
to enjoy the blend of intense espresso flavor
and creamy vanilla ice cream.
2. Chocolate Affogato
If you love the taste and aroma of sweet chocolate,
try using chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla
for your affogato.
3. Fruit Affogato
Fruit affogato is made by adding fruits to create
a refreshing taste. Strawberries, blueberries,
and mangoes are commonly used, offering a delightful
combination of ice cream and fruit.
4. Alcohol Affogato
This version adds a special touch with the inclusion
of alcoholic beverages. The blend of alcohol aroma
and creamy ice cream creates a luxurious taste.
