The More You Know, the Better It Gets. Coffee Varieties and Origins

Have you ever noticed that even with the same
Americano, the taste can vary?
Coffee flavor subtly changes depending on the
origin of the beans and the variety.
Where and what variety of coffee is cultivated can result in
nutty, tangy, or other distinct flavors.

Why don't we explore together with Nespresso Professional
the various types and origins of coffee,
including some representative varieties?

The Three Types of Coffee

Arabica, Robusta, Liberica

Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica are referred to as
the three major coffee beans. Among them, Arabica and Robusta
account for about 95% of the total coffee production
and usage, making them widely used and well-known.

Arabica is particularly sensitive to climate and
soil conditions, making cultivation challenging and
resulting in a relatively higher price.
However, it is prized for its smooth texture, rich aroma,
and complex profile, often characterized by
sweetness, acidity, and richness.

Robusta, on the other hand, is hardy and can thrive in
various environments. It can be mechanically harvested,
allowing for mass production. Compared to Arabica, Robusta
beans contain more caffeine and have a stronger bitter taste.

Liberica beans are characterized by a strong, bitter taste
and less aroma. Due to their susceptibility to drought,
its production is quite minimal.

Coffee Cultivated in Various Regions

South America, Africa, Central America, Asia

Coffee bean varieties are influenced by
the specific characteristics of their origin.

This is because they are affected by the region's soil,
climate, and altitude. Nespresso Professional's Origin range
also captures the unique flavors and aromas of each origin.

The three coffees in the Origin range originate from Brazil in
South America, Guatemala in Central America, and India in Asia.
The Finezzo blend in the Classic range is crafted by
blending beans from Ethiopia in Africa.

We'll provide further details on the characteristics
of each origin.

known for cultivating high-quality Arabica beans.
