CROP INSURANCE

 Climate shocks can have devasting impacts on coffee farmers, which are rarely fully covered by insurers. With Blue Marble Microinsurance and Fairtrade, we cross-reference real-time and historic weather data to calculate which farms are affected and provide automated payouts. In Aguadas and Norte Caldas, Colombia, 4,700+ farmers and 15,000 hectares are already protected.

FARMERS PENSIONS

 Coffee farmers often have little financial security. By working with the Colombian government, Fairtrade, and the Aguadas Coffee Growers’ Cooperative, we offer 2,000+ local farmers access to a retirement saving plan. 170 are already receiving a pension. A similar initiative has now also been implemented in Indonesia.

REVIVING ORIGINS

 In some regions, coffee production has been lost because of conflicts, economic and environmental disasters. Through partnerships with farmers, NGOs and governments, we’re bringing back coffee growing to support local economies and preserve exquisite varieties.
