Care has been part of Nespresso's DNA since the very beginning - embedded throughout our value chain and making the difference to every farmer and community we work with, as well as to every cup of Nespresso coffee.

Care is fundamental to our business, but it's not something you can see. Given how deeply customers care about people and the planet, our “Made with Care” campaign is designed to illustrate how their favorite coffees come into being and the care instilled in every drop.

Now more than ever, recent social movements and the global pandemic have highlighted the need to protect the most vulnerable and preserve the planet's precious resources. Nespresso is committed to being part of the solution and it is the brand's fundamental belief that crafting quality coffee can be both an art and a catalyst for positive change, if care is instilled in every detail. Deep human care is therefore invested in every step of the value chain at Nespresso. Through our new brand communications platform, “Made with Care” we aim to bring this belief to life.

"Made with Care" will feature two of Nespresso's prestigious coffee ranges, which have been inspired by the coffee farmers we work with and the rare coffees they produce:

Master Origins – coffees showcasing the craftmanship of local farmers who use traditional harvesting methods to achieve highly distinctive taste profiles.

Reviving Origins – a program which revives endangered coffees and farming communities in regions blighted by conflicts, economic hardship or environmental disaster.

OpenSC created an innovative new platform. We are working with them as a third-party to fulfil our sustainability goals – to capture, verify, and store data from regions where we source coffee for Nespresso, and invite consumers to trace its origins.

No, OpenSC is not sharing the amount farmers were paid, because we consider that to be sensitive personal information that needs to be protected. Rather, OpenSC verifies that the farmers were paid the AAA premium. We also only share the farmers’ first names and the result of the automated payment verification.

The platform, created by OpenSC, uses technology that also automatically verifies that every farmer receives the right premium payment for the high-quality, organic coffee they produce, directly via mobile money or cash.

This greater level of transparency also delivers operational efficiencies to local supply chain participants. It improves the robustness and reliability of manual, paper-based documentation.
