International coffee day

What is it? Why is it important? And how can you take part?

International coffee day

It should come as no surprise that International Coffee Day is one of our favourite days of the year. While many of us celebrate our morning coffee each and every day, there's more to THIS special day than just indulging in your favourite drink.

What is International Coffee Day and why is it important?

International Coffee Day is a celebration of everyone that makes our daily brew possible. It's a day to recognise the hard work of farmers, roasters, coffee makers and baristas the world over.

It's also an opportunity to shine a light on important issues such as fair trade, sustainability, and the livelihoods of coffee farmers around the globe.

When is International Coffee Day?

International coffee day falls on October 1st each year.

How we make a difference at Nespresso

International Coffee Day is a great opportunity to celebrate all of the people that help us to create delicious coffee. But there's a lot more to our story than just great taste: behind every cup is a journey. Every bean has been carefully grown, picked, and skilfully roasted and every blend tells the tale of the land, the environment and the people from which it came. This is why sustainability is at the heart of everything we do every single day of the year.

Sustainable Choices

In 2003, we partnered with the Rainforest Alliance to create the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program The goal:to create exceptional coffee in a sustainable manner, benefiting farming communities.

The program started with roughly 300 farmers and there are now about 110,000 in 14 countries. Each member has one goal in mind: to create sustainable quality now and always.

Today we source some 80% of our permanent coffees from the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program. Our long-term partnerships are central to our vision of a sustainable future that supports farmers and the creation of great tasting coffee.
