Nº20

N°20 is a coffee blend, cultivated exclusively for Nespresso customers and is made from a completely bespoke variety of Arabica. It has an exquisite profile, with enticing orange blossom aromas and fresh citrus notes. Designed to deliver superior taste, it has earned the Q Grade certification by the Coffee Quality Institute, an independent non-profit organisation that designates high standards of quality in the coffee industry.

With only 59 farmers in Colombia growing the specific species of Arabica required to produce N°20, it is also incredibly rare. As such, this is a coffee for special occasions.

The name N°20 pays homage to the important journey this coffee has been on – it is the result of 20 years of research, cultivation and care. To put that into context, it tends to take between two or three years to create a coffee with existing coffee species. In keeping with Nespresso's commitment to making coffee a force for good, the 59 farmers who cultivated the new variety are all part of the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program. 

The answer is simple: our coffee masters were striving for perfection. We set out to create a coffee that was not only the highest quality, but that had a distinctive aroma and flavour profile that we could consider the Nespresso signature. To get there, we cross planted two species of Arabica to develop a new variety exclusive to Nespresso, and then tested the plant in three different countries to identify which origin would give the coffee its best quality, yield and taste. Every decision was in pursuit of the best in-cup experience to surprise and delight Nespresso coffee lovers with something truly unique.

There were a few different regions where this coffee did not deliver the in-cup experience we set out to achieve, but Colombia was right on the money and the coffee plant was found to thrive in the climate, soil and altitude of the Cauca and Caldas regions.

This is a ‘treat-yourself’ coffee, best saved for occasions that you will truly enjoy. I’d recommend serving it as an Espresso in our Mild Reveal Glass alongside a piece of Dark Chocolate. Begin by smelling the coffee, then sip the coffee to appreciate the floral profile. Next, bite the chocolate and hold it in your mouth to let it melt. Now, take another sip of the coffee and take note of how the coffee transforms from something delicate and floral, into something rich like a piece of Dark Forest cake.
We believe this is one of the finest tasting coffees in the world. So, the best piece of advice I can offer is to sit back and savour it.

N°20 is extremely scarce, so was initially offered exclusively in the Original system. Given the unique taste profile, we wanted to ensure all our customers could try this special blend. The key difference between Original and Vertuo is that Vertuo features a double espresso extraction, crafted to create a longer cup.
