FAQ
My Lattissima Plus is not giving good froth results /how can I obtain more froth from my Lattissima Plus?
We recommend following these instructions to ensure the best frothing results:
It is important to rinse the frothing attachment by using the “clean” button before and after each use
- This will raise the temperature of the froth and ensure the spout is kept clean of milk residue
Adjust the froth regulator to the appropriate position according to the quantity of froth you would like
- Turn Clockwise = less froth
- Turn Counter-clockwise = more froth
Check that all 6 parts of the frothing attachment are secure
- The silicone milk pipe is completely inserted in the black frothing attachment
Different brands and types of milk will produce different qualities of froth
The milk being used should be ice cold
For best results, use milk from a newly opened container (no more than 3 days)
Do not keep milk in the milk jug for more than 2 days
Frothing attachment should be disassembled and washed regularly (it is dishwasher safe)
We recommend that all machines be descaled after 300 capsule uses or every 3 months. Scale build up can affect both the quality of milk froth and espresso. My capsules are not puncturing/my machine may have an air bubble
Your machine may actually have an air bubble. Air bubbles can block the flow of water through the spout. They usually occur if you run the machine without water in the tank or after a period of non-use.
If you own an Essenza and Le Cube machine, lift the coffee lever and push it away from you. You can then press either cup button until water starts flowing from the spout.
Be persistent as this may take a few tries
If you own a CitiZ, Pixie, U, Maestria, and Lattissima machine, fill the water tank, eject any capsule in the chamber, close the coffee lever and press the large cup button. Water should begin to flow from the spout.
For owners of machines with steam arms (C190, D150, D250, D290, D300, Romeo), please activate the steam/hot water function. How to take care of my machine?
1. Descale your machine at least once a year for soft water
Note: for hard water descale twice per year. (If you don’t know what water type you have hard water tends to leave white marks in the water tank)
Order a descaling kit now
2. Eject your capsules after each use
3. Frequently change the water tank with fresh drinking water
4. Regularly empty and clean the capsule container and drip tray
5. For integrated milk devices, activate the cleaning procedure after each use
6. Before your first coffee, brew water without capsule by pressing any coffee button.
By doing so, you pre-heat your coffee cup and you rinse the extraction system for better coffee experience. How high is the percentage of recyclable material used in Nespresso machines?
On average, our machines have a 60% recyclability potential.
And today, Nespresso Club Members can bring their machines back to wherever they bought them or in any electrical appliance store. In Europe, the European Union’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) has been in force since 2003. It provides a framework in which consumers can return their used electrical and electronic appliances for recycling. What does 19 bars mean?
All the Nespresso machines are equipped with a 19-bar pressure pump, which provides the power needed to pierce the film of the capsule and reveal the coffee’s 900 or so different aromas. The shape of the Nespresso capsule has been specially designed to ensure that the pressurised water flows evenly through the ground coffee during extraction. The temperature and flow time are also set to ensure that each precious aroma is expressed.
The cappuccino button of my machine shines orange?
This is the indicator you need to descale your machine. The Descaling ensure the proper functioning of your machine over its lifetime and that your coffee experience is as perfect as the first day
Quality of milk froth is not up to standard.
For perfect milk froth, use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature (about 4° C/39.2° F).
- Rinse after each milk based preparation. Place a recipient under milk outlet, press and hold the ”CLEAN” button until machine stops pumping automatically. Milk recipe buttons blink during the rinsing process (takes approximately 10 sec). When lights are steady, the rinsing process is finished.
- Every two days, disassemble the R.C.S. and clean all components in the upper level of a dishwasher.
- Orientate the milk spout to the centre of the cup or glass.
- Do not use raw unpasteurised milk and be sure not to use milk after its expiration date as indicated on the packaging.
- Do not use frozen milkMy descaling light remains on even after descaling/ What does the orange light mean?
Your machine’s water hardness may need to be reset or your machine may need to be descaled.
By default, the machine is set to the hardest water setting, so it may prematurely alert you to descale, as indicated by the orange cappuccino light. When resetting the machine to factory settings, it automatically changes the setting to ‘hard’ water.
If you recently descaled the machine and are finding that the orange descaling light is still illuminated, please change the water hardness.
You may modify the water hardness setting by following these steps:
For the Lattissima Plus machine:
Begin with the machine turned off
To set the water hardness to soft water
Hold down the Latte Macchiato button while turning the machine on
Once this is done, the orange descaling indicator light will come off.
For the Maestria/Gran Maestria machines:
You may modify the water hardness setting by following these steps:
Turn off your machine
While turning the machine on, press the Espresso button to enter the Menu mode
The middle light will begin to blink orange
Set the Espresso dial to [2] to select Water Hardness mode
Set the Lungo dial to [2] for Medium Water Hardness or [3] for Soft Water Hardness
Press the Lungo button to confirm the desired setting
To exit the Menu mode at any time, you can press the espresso button for 3 seconds.
Once this is done, the orange descaling indicator light will come off. If the light is still remaining lit, your machine may need to be descaled.
