Our History

The Nespresso story is steeped in Italian heritage and culture. Founded in 1986, we pioneered the coffee capsule system to enable coffee lovers at home to craft the perfect cup of espresso coffee every time at the touch of a button.

We consciously strive to reduce our carbon footprint and waste, which is why the Nespresso capsule and machine system uses just the right amount of coffee, water and energy to brew a single cup of coffee.

Nespresso was built on the premise of doing things differently. Over the past 30 years, we have fine-tuned our know-how to realise that it’s what’s inside that counts, from sourcing the highest quality beans to developing coffee capsules with the right origins, roasting level and grind to ensuring the freshness and aroma are sealed inside the capsule.

Our Recycling

Nespresso is the first business of its kind to use aluminium for coffee capsules. Aluminium is an infinitely recyclable material, which means every capsule can be given a second life.

Coffee grounds are used in locally produced coffee compost while the aluminium from capsules can find new purpose in everything from Vélosophy bicycles to Caran d’Ache mechanical pencils.

Our ambition towards a more circular economy is designed to use less and keep materials in use for longer. Are you with us?
