REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE

Farming in Harmony With Nature

High-quality coffee and a healthy ecosystem go hand in hand.

From the shade offered by neighbouring trees to the healthy soil and clean water that runs through it, a thriving, natural ecosystem means high-quality coffee can thrive and is protected for future generations.

For the last 20 years, we’ve been working with farmers to respect and protect nature. We call this our AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program.

But sustainable farming is no longer enough. Today, we’re supporting farmers on a transition to regenerative agriculture: a way of farming that harnesses the power of nature to heal itself, restoring healthy soils and improving farmers’ resilience to climate change.

We’re working towards achieving net zero as soon as 2035, reducing and removing emissions from our value chain wherever possible.

Alongside our partners, we’ve planted 7.4 million trees across regions within our AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program.

Partnering with Rainforest Alliance

Behind every cup of coffee is the farm it was grown on and, behind that, the people nurturing the land. These incredible farmers are the heart of the unforgettable taste of Nespresso coffee.

Over the last 20 years, we’ve partnered with the Rainforest Alliance to enrol over 150,000 farmers into the AAA Program: a unique approach to coffee sourcing designed to ensure the long-term supply of precious coffees.

We work hand-in-hand with farmers, providing free training and technical assistance in sustainable practices, empowering them to improve the quality of their coffee and the productivity of their farm. Not only can this help farmers to grow their income, but protect their land and coffee for future generations.

Regenerative agriculture helps farmers build resilience against the impacts of climate change through practices such as planting trees, nurturing healthy soil, and promoting biodiversity.

Shade-grown coffee

Trees provide shade which helps improve coffee quality, environmental resilience, and promote biodiversity.

Better soil. Better coffee

Healthier soil means healthier crops. It helps to prevent land degradation, store CO2 from the atmosphere and cycle nutrients.

Encouraging biodiversity

The diversity of animals and insects is a sign of a healthy ecosystem in which plants – including coffee - can thrive.
