How to prepare a cold brew coffee?
Cold brew coffee is popular around the world, but more and more Canadians are turning
to it because of its smooth, refreshing profile.
Forget bitter-tasting coffee, Nespresso cold brew coffee delivers a silky texture from the best
coffee beans of Arabica coffee produced in Latin America. These beans are full of
notes of roasted caramel and take only a few minutes to brew.

What is cold brew coffee?
Cold-brew coffee is a traditional Japanese method dating back to the 1600s. Here are some key information on its ancestral preparation :
Traditional preparation: To prepare it, coffee beans are soaked in cold water for 12 to 24 hours, then filtered.
The result: This prolonged infusion reduces bitterness and results in a thicker, velvety coffee, offering coffee lovers an incomparable sweetness in the mouth.

The flavour profile
As you know by now, time is of the essence when it comes to making cold brew coffee. As this coffee is brewed without heat, the flavours and aromas that are extracted from it are much sweeter and natural than those of the iced coffee.
Using only cold water, a slow brewing process occurs. Water carefully extracts the compounds from coffee beans, highlighting colour, flavours and caffeine.
Thanks to this slow and progressive cold infusion, the resulting filtered coffee is less acidic and less bitter than the hot-brewed coffee. It tends to have a softer, sweeter taste.
However, it is important to remember that, despite a slightly less intense taste, this coffee is generally richer in caffeine due to the longer infusion time.
How to make a cold brew coffee at home ?
As traditional preparation can take a long time, at Nespresso we have developed a cold brew coffee that takes only a few minutes, without needing to be brewed in the fridge at night before it can be enjoyed.
With Nespresso's machines, you don't have to wait nearly a day to enjoy a cold coffee. With a simple press of a button, you can enjoy a smooth and delicate coffee with beautiful notes of caramel and sweet cereals.
This fresh water phase reproduces the much longer process generally required to make a cold brew coffee. Nespresso's Vertuo machine system technology ingeniously reads the bar code on the capsule and adjusts the brewing settings to those of a cold style coffee, providing the smooth and refreshing profile that some Canadians have come to love.
