Nespressos bulk coffee pod recycling program

Participation in the Bulk Recycling Initiative is free of charge. Nespresso provides the free recycling kit, and covers the cost of returning the used Nespresso aluminium capsules.

Each recycling kit includes three recycling boxes, liner bags and cable ties. Boxes are packed flat and arrive with simple assembly instructions printed on the box.

The dimensions of the box are 60cm x 30cm x 30cm. Each recycling box can hold up to 1,500 used capsules and should weigh no more than 16kg when full. It’s important that boxes are not overfilled.

The recycling box is made from cardboard. It has a sturdy structure and comes with plastic lining to prevent any leakage from used capsules. Cable ties are also provided to seal the bag when the box is full and ready for shipping. As well as the capsules, both the box and the plastic lining will be recycled or recovered as appropriate when they are returned to Nespresso.

The whole box, including the bag, is collected each time. Please seal the bag with the provided cable tie and tape the lid and bottom of the box for collection.

Yes, it is fine to leave your used capsules in bags when you place them in the box.

The purpose of the Bulk Recycling Programme is to provide a free and convenient recycling option for customers, and as such there is no reward for participating. We know that many individuals and businesses want to be part of the solution and support a circular economy. There is demand for this program because of the convenience it provides.

In the past, there was an incentive program for florists who joined in the initial stage of this initiative. This incentive is no longer active for new participants.

The Bulk Recycling Programme is designed for high-volume collection of used capsules. It is suitable for a location that can collect approximately 1,500 capsules per box before organising collection. Individual customers have the option of returning capsules via Nespresso Boutiques, Post or by dropping the capsules in a bulk recycling box set-up at a Public Collection Point. Individual customers can also request for a bulk recycling kit and set it up to collect used capsules on behalf of others, such as at work or with your neighbours.

The Bulk Recycling Programme is designed for high-volume collection of used capsules. It is suitable for a location that can collect approximately 1,500 capsules per box. As such, you may be a business or an individual, collecting on behalf of others. Common examples include:

• A company recycling on behalf of its employees.
• A strata manager recycling on behalf of tenants.
• A small business offering the recycling service to their customers.
• An individual sharing and combining the recycling volume with family and friends.

The program is not set up to track who is recycling, however we can see who has ordered the kit and who has returned the box via information provided by our courier partner.

• Prepare your box for collection by the sealing the box liner with the provided cable tie and taping both the lid and bottom of the box.
• Arrange a pick-up online by following the “Return” link provided on Nespresso’s website.
• The link will take you to an online form provided by our courier. Complete all the required information including the date and time as to when the boxes are ready for collection. It is recommended to make a booking 48 hours in advance.
• You will be required to print a shipping label to complete the booking process. The shipping label should be affixed to each box ahead of the collection.
• You will receive a confirmation email confirming your booking. Please take note of the booking reference number should you have any queries.
• A courier will arrive at the designated location to collect your box. Please ensure someone is in attendance for pick-up.

It is recommended that you book for a collection at least 48 hours in advance. The collection service is available only on Monday to Friday, between 9am to 5pm.

Our courier partner will attempt to arrive at the designated location on the selected date and before the specified closing time. Any job not picked up on the day will be re-attempted on the next business day.

In an event that your recycling boxes isn’t picked up on the selected date, our courier partner will automatically reschedule it for the next business day. Alternatively, you may contact Nespresso to enquire about the booking status. When making an enquiry, please remember to provide your booking reference number which can be found in the booking confirmation sent by email.
