Why aluminum?

Aluminium is the perfect barrier to oxygen, light and humidity and to protect the freshness and the aromas of high-quality coffee, over time. Besides that is infinitely recyclable and is one of the most widely recycled materials in the world.

The only way to become more circular is to ensure what comes to an end always becomes a new beginning.

By the end of 2021, our home capsules will be made using recycled aluminum.

Rainforest Alliance & Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program™

Nespresso and the Rainforest Alliance have partnered since 2003 to develop the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program™ to produce exceptional coffee while protecting the environment and also ensuring the farmers’ livelihoods and the welfare of their families and communities. The program combines Nespresso coffee expertise with the Rainforest Alliance’s knowledge of social and environmental sustainability and best farming practices, meaning practices that are good for both people and the planet.

Through this program we have reconfigured the idea of sustainability into our own definition of Sustainable Quality to be able to create a continuous supply of the highest quality coffee by working hand in hand with coffee farming communities. So whenever you enjoy great coffee, think about Sustainable Quality and how these two words help ensure that the beans have been produced with the greatest of care for the environment, farm workers, their families and farming communities.
